Under 13 Football 2009

The U-13 Footballers had a very good year. The boys played their first game against Celbridge on 31st March. It was a very close game and we battled hard to win by one point. In our second game against Kilcock, we won by a high number of points and we were very happy with the result.

In our final group game against Clane, we went behind by a point at one stage, but we fought back brilliantly to win by five points. We topped the group to go on and play St. Conleth’s of Newbridge in the county semi-final. In another tough game, we held on to win by seven points to qualify for the county final on the 28th May against Athy.

The final was in Sarsfields GAA grounds in Newbridge. Against a very strong Athy team, the game was level at half-time. Athy scored a goal and two points early in the second half but we fought back to get within one point of them. A brilliant save from the Athy goalkeeper denied us a goal which would have given us the lead but unfortunately, time ran out and we were unlucky to lose the final by a single point.

The boys were naturally disappointed to lose on the day but they should be exceptionally proud of their brilliant efforts showing fantastic bravery, skill and dedication over the last few months. Well done lads!!
