The Drum Workshop

We went to a drum workshop in our P.E. Hall where we learned about African drumming. We got to play the drums and other West African musical instruments. The instruments were from countries like Sengal, Ivory Coast, Ghana and Botswana. The big drums were called bass drums and they made a louder sound. There were apple shakers and nobo bells from Brazil. We each got a chance to play every drum in the drumming circle. We played rhythms using words like Pat the Baker and the counties Tipperary, Cork, Laois and Offaly.

We played a maths quiz using rhythm beats for each answer. The drums had animal skin on the top and fur on the sides. For some of the drums we used sticks to beat the rhythm. The drum workshop was my favourite activity this year! By Ross Lynch.
