Live Butterfly Lifecycle!

A few weeks ago we got five live caterpillars in our classroom. They were very small, we named them Cattice, Pokey, Sunny, Sweetie and Stripey. We watched them grow bigger and bigger over a few weeks until they built their cocoons. Then Ms. Mc Nickle moved them from their caterpillar box to their butterfly garden. After two weeks Ms. Mc Nickle saw one hatch and if you look carefully at the left cocoon you can see that starting in the picture below! Today we saw that five painted lady butterflies had hatched from their cocoons. We let them out of their butterfly garden to fly into the yard. Some of them didn’t want to come out! One even stayed on the tissue in Ms. McNickle’s hand so we all got to look at him.

Can you see one of our butterflies flying out of the butterfly garden in the pictures below?! We saw one of our butterflies resting on the grass later – we think it was Cattice. Bye bye butterflies we loved having you in our classroom!!
