Nuts about Newts

Nuts about newts – We had two special visitors in our classroom because we were learning all about pond life. These are called newts. The newt is part of the salamander family.

They can be fully aquatic or semi-aquatic. They’re favourite food is worms but they eat plankton too. They can be found in ponds or lakesides in Europe, Asia and North America. There are many different types.

We also learned about frogs, the waterboatman, the pond skater, the dragonfly, lilies, bull rushes, the damsel nymph and the kingfisher. Ponds are full of life!
